Australia China Council grants – Calls for Expressions of Interest

img 02

NSW Premier Mike Baird launches China Australia Millennial Project (CAMP) in Shanghai.

“I encourage young people from across China and NSW to get involved in this exciting new initiative,” Mr Baird said.

“A new initiative will bring together 100 young innovators from China and match them with 100 bright young minds from Australia for a five-day innovation workshop as part of CAMP,” he said.

“This initiative reflects the essence behind the Vivid Ideas program, which promotes ideas, discussion and debate.
“Successful applicants will be asked to work together to consider challenges common to both countries before being given an opportunity to pitch their ideas to compete for grants, venture capital, and consideration in the Premier’s Innovation Initiative” Mr Baird said.

CAMP was recently recognised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australia China Council (ACC) with a seed grant. ACC awarded funding to 33 projects in the new strategic priority areas of Education, Economic Diplomacy, Arts and Culture and Australian Studies in China.

“The China Australia Millennial Project is supported, among many other government and private sponsors, by the Australia-China Council as a new platform with significant potential to enable future champions of bilateral engagement to meet, build relationships and make practical contributions to Australia-China relations and broad global challenges”.

The Australia-China Council was established by the Australian Government to promote people-to-people connectivity between Australia and China.

Calls for expressions of interest from Chinese and Australian innovators aged 18 – 35 are now open at www.australiachina.org. Express interest today or share this with those who might be keen to.

First AIA Sustainability meeting for 2014‏

A friendly reminder of tomorrow evenings first meeting of 2014 and a little more inspiration for the budding filmmaker within…

The first AIA sustainability meeting is in one week – Wednesday 12th Feb at 5:30pm

This time it’s different:
You will recall we have an exciting new direction for 2014.  Accordingly we need you to be ready for something different at our first meeting.

As you know we will be making short video clips on the topic of sustainability and the built environment through the year. We aim to make three. Their success will be how widely they will be forwarded and we aim for a viral vid.  We aim to elegantly capture an idea and communicate it. For a great overview, have a look at: www.epipheo.com

The first sustainability meeting for 2014 is Feb the 12th and at this meeting will be starting our ‘pitches’ – this is where we each get a maximum of two minutes to pitch an idea to the rest of the group about what video we make this year.

How do I pitch?:
There are lots of ways to do this and, in short, there are no rules.
–     you could read a script as though you were a narrator
you could describe what we would see
you could write a paragraph of text
you can present still images/PowerPoint to help structure it
you could describe the issue with a loose idea & see if the group wants to pursue it
you can throw minties and promise us all fame and wealth

How will we choose?
We are nothing if not democratic, and accordingly we will vote.  Your pitch(es?) idea(s) need to be on the topic of sustainability, to be memorable, to encourage people to forward it and to be do-able.  Too easy!

Examples?
there are heaps of examples… many bad, some good.  see the list below

What now?

We need everyone to come with a minimum of ONE IDEA, so start thinking + writing down your thoughts.  We will have a laptop available for any e-presentation pitches (bring yr USB).  Bring your best ideas, ready to pitch on Wednesday Feb the 12that 5:30pmatTusculum.

When: Wednesday, 12 February 2014, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: Tusculum, 3 Manning Street. Potts Point
