Thursday March 1st, 2012 the Sustainable Design and Development Research Cluster Faculty of built environment University of New South Wales hosted a seminar by Professor Kazuhide Ito from Kyushu University – Japan. Professor Ito was visiting Australia through the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering Australia Japan Emerging Research Leaders Exchange Program. His research interests include analysis and prediction of indoor environmental quality (indoor air, thermal comfort) and relationships with health, productivity and performance. Professor Ito gave a talk on “Prediction and control of indoor air quality and its impact on health”, with a focus on integrated simulation procedures for infection control. Interestingly, he extends his research beyond the border of disciplinary (architect/ built environment) to medical doctor field in his effort to study the relationship of micro climate of human body and buildings. Following Professor Ito’s talk, three of FBE PhD students whose research falls into the above domains, namely Shamila Haddad, M. Kotbi and Krishna Munsami briefly presented their “work in progress” for feedback and discussion.
